1.Sanskrit Plays used for Kutiyattam

according to an oral tradition many plays have been popular on the stage, the total mumber of acts prepared for the stage being seventy two. But some of them are not in use now. A list of given below.  

  1. srikrishnacarita
  2. Unmadavasavadatta
  3. Sakuntala

  These three are traditionally reported to be popular. We have no evidence. A Reference in Natankusa indicates that Sakunthala was not used by Cakyars.

  1. Kanabhara
  2. Urubhanga
  3. Pancaratra
  4. Avimaraka
  5. Mahanataka
  6. Prantinjayaugandharayana
  7. Balacarita
  8. Carudatta

These  were once popular , but is not used by Cakyars now . Mantranka, the third act of pratinja is still very much populalr.

3.       Nagananda

4.       Pratima

5.       Mattavilasa

6.       Kalyanasaugandhika

7.       Bhagavadajjukam

These are the plays which are still among the Chakyars . Of these Bhagavadajjuka and Mattavilasa are prahasanas. Svapnavasdatta was not used for a long time but recently was presented on the stage at the initiative of Late  Sri. Mani Madhava Chakyar. Attakatha of Balivadhanaka has been wweekly performances of Kuiyatam.
